Q: Can I apply to sit any of the examinations or do I have to start with the Preliminary examination?
A: Candidates can apply to sit any examination at any level. However, they should take care not to apply for examinations that are scheduled to take place at the same time.
Q: How long will it take after I send you my application form before I know if my application has been successful?
A: When we receive your application we will send an acknowledgement. We will check the application is complete. Assuming all the application is complete it will go for review by the Applications Panel.
The Applications Panel sits approximately every four to six weeks. Depending on when we receive your application within this period it will affect how quickly it will be reviewed by the Panel and therefore, how soon we are able to advise you of the outcome of your application.
Q: Do I need to send payment with my application?
A: If you are applying for Student or Affiliate grade you should send the current year's subscription payment with your application.
If you are applying for any other grade you do not need to make any payment at the time of application. We will write to you advising of the outcome of your application and of any subscriptions due.
Q: I have passed the Intermediate exam. Can I apply for Technician grade?
A: The Intermediate examination fulfils the academic part of the requirement for Technician grade of membership. There is also a training/experience requirement.
Q: I have four Member exam passes, including the mandatory papers. Can I apply for Member grade?
A: Four required passes at Member level, if achieved within a five year period, fulfill the academic part of the requirement for Member grade of membership. There is also a training/experience requirement.
